Britain’s Northern Superpower: Building a Greater Glasgow

Thanks for joining us at Britain’s Northern Superpower. The purpose of this one day conference is to deliver progress for Glasgow. Using what we have learned today, we plan to publish a report on the Greater Glasgow economy for UK and Scottish Ministers, and for all political parties with recommendations. We would be grateful for your feedback and ideas to help us provide a comprehensive picture of business and political opinion in Glasgow.

Along with Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham, Glasgow is one of the “big four” UK cities outside London, capable of becoming a global hub for tomorrow’s growth sectors. To achieve this, Glasgow needs a bold and ambitious plan to build its economy.

We will only achieve our goals if we work together

COP26 demonstrated once again that we cannot make change happen in the world without making it together. That’s why we’re calling for a COP UK to:

  • Agree common regulatory pathways
  • Distribute resources fairly, to support a fair transition across the UK

  • Bring together devolved authorities and nations, so that we can commit individually and collectively to carbon targets
