- COOPERATE TO GET GROWTH, SAYS MACDONALD
Prof Ronald MacDonald, chair of Our Scottish Future’s Economy Commission said:
“As acknowledged by the Finance Secretary today, and confirmed by the Scottish Fiscal Commission, Scotland’s public finances are in an unsustainable state. A high spend, low growth model for the economy is one that is certain to come to grief.”
“It does not need to be like this, however. Whatever their disagreements on the constitution, we must now see a consensus among Government and opposition parties about the fundamental need to boost growth in Scotland to UK rates.”
“That means taking some hard choices now on how to deliver economic development in Scotland. It also requires an acceptance that higher growth will come through cooperation not competition with the rest of the UK.”
“The recent National Strategy for Economic Transformation sadly fell well short of the kind of vision we need. Our Scottish Future is now calling for a serious and constructive plan in Scotland on how to generate economic growth for the good of us all.”
